When we purchased our home, we selected it because it had a space for an in-law suit. Ever since we moved in we have been working on creating this space for my mom. It's not huge, but it will give her a space of her own. With space in mind, I carved out a decent sized closet under the stairs. All these tiny house shows are inspiring as we are working with loads of space compared to some of them.
I wanted to use every inch of the space to maximize storage. I found space for this shelf at the back of the closet. The angle made it a little tricky but I think it worked out. This space can be used for folded clothes and baskets that can hold all sorts of odds and end. Shoes will eventually go someplace else. I am working on either purchasing or making a piece of furniture to hold shoes. IKEA has some nice ones.
I love how the drawers came out. I wanted a custom look so I did inset drawers with a Shaker style face. I love the simplicity with the pop of color. I am also very proud because this project I did completely on my own with no help from the hubby! It kind of makes me think I might be able to build kitchen cabinets.
