About

'This blog documents my DIY projects and my home remodel. Six years ago we bought our current home. We had to move as I had run out of gardening space at our last one. My dream had been to restore an old farm house...we got a 1980's colonial. Its got good bones and I am infusing it with character and charm. While many of the projects I do, I do on my own (once I tore down a wall while my husband was at work), he is always waiting in the wings to help/rescue me from projects that may be over my head. He is extremely talented and I am pretty sure can do anything. I knew he was a keeper when for our first anniversary he bought me a wood lathe because at that time I was very into turning wood. He supports my passions even if they are expensive and messy and after all, the way to this girl's heart is by buying her tools!
We have two amazing daughters who are also very creative. I am constantly cleaning up craft projects! We have a dog, rabbit, two Guinea pigs and eight chickens. Last year when my husband asked what I wanted for Christmas I told him bees. He got me the Flow hive. It had mixed reviews so we decided to also get a traditional Langstroth hive. It's almost the end of year one with bees and let me tell you, the Flow hive is amazing! We have yet to harvest from the Langstroth but we did get honey from the Flow. It was so neat to watch the honey pour out into jars with little effort and no harm to the bees. My girls loved dipping their fingers in the honey as it spilled into the jars. One of the things I love about our little farm is that my kids know where food comes from. They have seen chickens lay eggs and pick their veggies from our garden. It’s our urban farm and we love it.
I enjoy gardening, cooking, decorating and building. I am a Jill of all traders and really a master of none. I love to make things beautiful and trying new things and apparently took my parents seriously when they said I could do anything if I put my mind to it. lol . I love projects and have a need to make things! Whether it's knitting hats and mittens for my girls, building cabinets or sewing curtains for our camper. I grew up around artists and woodworkers so it's in my blood. I can't help it! I am not a professional at any of these things but they make me happy.
My love for homes and real estate brought me into a career as a real estate agent. It is a great feeling helping people find a house that they can turn into their home. I love to see Christmas trees in living rooms, sleigh riding in backyards, babies taking their first baths in sinks and birthday parties all happening in homes I helped to find. I also get to help people with interior design. Whether it is staging their home for sale or the placement of furniture and the design details in their new home, I am able to use my design skills to help my clients. I also work for a fabulous company with a great group of people who support each other and make work extremely fun. It is a very rewarding job!
My youngest helping me tear down the wall while daddy is at work. She is so cute that there was no way he could be mad when he saw this picture.
I have a passion for homes and feel that this space has the utmost of importance as it is where our most precious memories are made. Our holidays, birthdays and family meals all happen in it. Memories happen in this space for not only those that live in it, but those that we share our lives with. It is our safe haven, and our home base. It is more than a house, it is a home. Follow me as I make this house a home to share with my family and friends. Along the way my hope for this blog is to inspire you. Make your environment beautiful. Realize that you can do anything you put your mind to. I hope I am teaching my girls this!
